30 Days of Thanksgiving - Day 13

Today I am thankful for Heworlson.  Heworlson is a three year old little boy at an orphanage in Haiti that we are sponsoring.

A friend of mine that grew up with us in LaGrange, Matt Bush, and his wife, Jessica, are preparing to move to to Haiti to run an orphanage and raise the children at the orphanage.  The orphanage, called "All Things New" (click to get to the website), houses orphan children of all ages that are now being taught to know Jesus.  They are being loved and cared for unlike so many orphans throughout Haiti.  Matt and Jessica are committed to moving to Haiti as soon as possible.  In order to provide for the needs of the children, sponsorships have been set up to provide financial assistance for the children and the orphanage.  Along with the monthly sponsorship, we are able to send packages for our individual sponsorship when groups go to visit All Things New throughout the year.

God calls each of us to care for the orphan throughout the Bible.  One way for us to do that at this point in our life is to sponsor an orphan through this amazing ministry.  Not only does our contribution provide for a child that doesn't have a mommy or daddy, it has allowed us to teach our children about those less fortunate than us.  It opens up the conversation with our little boys.  We pray for Heworlson as a family.  We have pictures of him in our house to remind us of him and his needs.   We have sent him gifts, as well as hand drawn pictures from Connor.  It teaches the boys to care for the orphan.  It teaches them to be thankful for our blessings and to be generous with all we have been given.  It teaches them to pray for others.  It teaches them that God loves all people and our job is to show God's love to others.

I am thankful for this smiley little boy named Heworlson.  He is a child of God.  He may not have a mom or dad to take care of him, but his is loved by our Heavenly Father beyond all imagination.  I pray that he will never feel lonely.  I pray that he will know God's love.

Please pray for Heworlson with us.  Please pray for Matt and Jessica as they follow God's call to  Haiti.  And, please pray for all of the children at All Things New.  If you're interested in learning more about this ministry, please check out their website.

James 1:27
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
