The Slide

And, one more accomplishment in our Summer of Swimming is that Connor will now go down the slide at our pool!  Actually, now, he will not stop going down the slide at our pool!

His first time!

And, then, we couldn't keep him off of the slide!

Happy Summer!

Sleep

On Sunday, I woke up with a sore throat and not feeling great, but after I took some Motrin and got moving, I started feeling better.  However, by mid-afternoon, I started feeling worse again.  I had a low-grade fever and a sore throat.  I felt the same way on Monday morning, but again, as I got going and the Motrin kicked in, I was doing okay.  Not great, but okay.  The kids did spend a lot of time in front of the TV yesterday!  But, I decided to go to the doctor late yesterday afternoon and it is a good thing I did.  I ended up testing positive for strep throat.  I am 33 years old and have NEVER had strep throat, so I didn't think I would have it. I just figured I was going to end up with a cold or the flu or something.  Nope, strep throat.  The good thing about strep is that you feel much better after getting on antibiotics, so I am now feeling much better!  However, the bad thing is that strep is very contagious!  Last night, Connor woke up to go to the bathroom and he said he had a sore throat.  I checked his forehead and he was definitely warm.  So, after some Motrin, I put him back to bed, but I knew he'd need to go to the doctor this morning.  Jeremy stayed home so that he could take him so that I wouldn't have to do it.  I decided to send Kyle, too, just to be checked.  And, I'm so glad I did.  Turns out he has it, too!  And, the bumps on his face that I thought were infection caused by an infected busted lip were in fact a rash from strep throat.  So, now all three of us are on antibiotics and we have watched more TV in the past two days than we have in the past two weeks combined!

And, today, Kyle fell asleep while watching The Incredibles.  He never falls asleep watching something, but he was worn out.  Actually, he is still sleeping next to me right now!

Look at those sweet eye lashes!

And, those sweet fingers!!

We should all three be better tomorrow.  Now, I'm just waiting on Jeremy to come down with it.  At least we know that at the first sign of a sore throat, he should go to the doctor!

Water Pirates

On Sunday, Jeremy set up our little pirate pool for the boys to cool off!  They had a great time splishing and splashing!

Summer Life!

Summer means swimming and playing in the water, so I really wanted Connor to learn how to swim this summer (as I've mentioned before).  I thought it would be a torturous experience for him, me, and the swim teacher, but I was determined that he would at least need to learn to doggy paddle to the side of the pool in case he fell in the pool.  Ideally, I wanted him to be able to swim and have fun as he grows up, but I honestly could not see it happening.  I knew that if he could get over his fears of water in his face and his fear without a life jacket that he would be able to do it, but I didn't know how difficult that would be for him or for the teacher to overcome.  Thankfully, he did amazing!  He went from scared to put his face in the water, scared to let go of the edge without a float or life jacket to swimming everywhere, swimming underwater for dive rings or other toys, and jumping off the diving board!!!  And, he did all of this in just a few lessons!  We have been so proud of all he accomplished this month.  His pool life has changed drastically and he loves it!

Here are a couple of pictures from Saturday when we went swimming with Beth's family at her parent's pool.  At first, he wouldn't jump in from the diving board, but throughout the day, he ventured further and further down the pool jumping in and he eventually started jumping in from the diving board and he loved it.  Then, we couldn't get him to stop!

These were taken before he figured out he could do the diving board.  I'll have to get some diving board pictures next time.

Life Changing Summer for him!

Catch Up

I have not posted any pictures in awhile!  So, here is my catch up post.

I took the boys to a puppet show at the Library one night last week.  The boys really enjoyed it.  And, I really enjoyed watching their faces smile and laugh!  Connor was called up to help at one point and he was so proud of himself!

We have been doing swimming lessons a couple of days a week for the past few weeks.  They have had four lessons so far.  Kyle is doing well, but he does not love the lessons.  He wants to do things his way or no way!  Connor has done so great!  Two weeks ago he would not put his face in the water.  After only four lessons, he is swimming under the water!  And, he loves it!

Here is a video of the first time he swam with his face in the water continuously.  Before Friday, he would put his face in and pull it up immediately.  Something clicked during lessons on Friday and he figured out how to leave his face in and swim!

On Saturday, Club Car was sponsoring an event at the Edventure Museum in Columbia and Club Car families could get in free, so of course, we took advantage!  We had never been to this Children's Museum and now I wish I had taken them over the years!  It was great!  The boys had a really great time and I really enjoyed our morning together.

They even had a dinosaur area as a special exhibit, so the boys really enjoyed that part!

After getting home, the boys and I headed to Artsy Me, a pottery painting place in town, to paint some pottery and help raise money for a family I know that is moving to Swaziland to be missionaries.  We saw several friends and painted some great things.

Since Saturday was also our 11th anniversary, after painting pottery, Jeremy and I had a babysitter come over to keep the boys so that we could have a nice dinner out!  We enjoyed our time celebrating 11 years of marriage!

We hope you have had a great week!
