"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."
On Wednesday, September 2nd, we took Paxton to his doctor's appointment with the cleft team at GRU Hospital. It was a LONG morning, but we were seen by the plastic surgeon who does the cleft surgeries, a speech therapist, and the ENT. A couple of days later, we received a call to schedule his palate repair surgery. His surgery will be on September 29th. He will be admitted to the hospital early that morning and surgery will be sometime that day. He will stay overnight (with me) at the hospital for one night. He will be on a liquid diet for two weeks followed by four more weeks of a soft food diet. This will be a huge struggle for Paxton. He loves food and he loves food that he can chew. He hates soft foods like applesauce and yogurt. He's also not a big fan of ice cream, so I plan to spend the next couple of weeks figuring out foods he will eat and drink during the liquid and soft diet period!
However, we are so thankful that he will have his repair done with plenty of time to recovery before the holidays! I know that the first week after the surgery will be difficult for pain and the weeks of the restricted diet will be really frustrating and difficult for him, but getting the surgery done so early is great and will be the best thing for him.
Please pray for Paxton over the next few weeks and we will continue to update the blog about his surgery.
